Am I the only person that thinks this video is hilarious? It’s like watching crazy monkeys in a zoo.

Completed Halo: Reach Campaign
Last night I completed the Halo: Reach campaign. After predicting that the campaign would be boring and that Reach’s online multiplayer would be the focal point, I’ve found myself enjoying the campaign more than online matchmaking.
!! SPOILERS AHEAD !!
First, I thought that Reach’s campaign environment felt massive. Just being in the game was entertaining. I tend to do...

Here is all of the code that I showed yesterday at my Twin Cities Code Camp Session “Your Silverlight App Does WHAT?!”

And also, here is the composite image from my double-web cam demo - also known as the “what Keith Dahlby and Mike Hodnick’s children would look...

GPS and Geocoding with Android
I did a little development on Android last night and wrote a very simple app that does two things: monitors the current location (latitude and longitude) and gets the street address from the current location data.
The Android location and geocoding APIs were trivial, but this was my first experience doing any GPS programming on a real, physical mobile device (not an emulator) - so it was...

New Music: Complicated Maze (Glaze Mix)
I just completed a remix of an older tune I recorded back around 2005. I used the original vocal track and added in a lot of new flavor.
You can listen to and download the track from Bandcamp:
Complicated Maze (Glaze Mix)
You can also listen to the original version:
Complicated Maze - original ROCK AND ROLL!!! version
The singing isn’t the greatest, but bearable!
Enjoy.

Last Day: 3M Visual Attention Service web site
Today marks the final day that my team at 3M is working on the Visual Attention Service web site (http://vas.3m.com). It has been an awesome year working with this team on a really, really great project.
The list of features and technologies used on this project was impressive:
Public web site built with ASP .NET MVC 2, hosted in Azure
Windows Azure (web roles, worker roles, blob storage)

Picked up Halo: Reach
Walmart always pulls through early on launch days with no lines. Nobody even in the store, for that matter.
It’ll be a late night tonight :)
Inetium is Hiring
Inetium (http://inetium.com) is hiring. We have positions waiting to be filled by talented people who have a passion for technology at their core. Our bar is high (at least if I’m doing the interviewing!), and we require consultants who maintain a high level of care and concern for our customers. We are looking for people who push their own limits of what they know of technology and...

Halo: Reach release is tomorrow
The long-awaited Halo: Reach game for XBox 360 launches tomorrow. Is anybody not excited? I have my copy reserved and I plan on playing for a long time after little kiddie bed time Tuesday night. My daughter is pretty excited about the game too, believe it or not. She and I use Forge in Halo 3 all the time.
At the bare minimum, the new Halo will be a new set of multiplayer maps. That alone would...

Android dev newbie: use HTTP client to get json...
I’ve been doing mild development for Android for about a week now. Up until last night, it’s been all very basic Hello Werld kind of coding - things like basic UI layout tasks and event wiring. Last night I decided it was time to see if I could actually pull some data from a local test web server into an Android app.
In hindsight, this task was pretty easy. However, the Android and...

Introducing the Error Alpaca
Before I get to the Error Alpaca, I have to explain that I’m reviving my good old kindohm.com web site to be my personal internet end point for information about me. Hodnick.com will continue to live on for blog/article posts. Rss feed URLs haven’t changed. It’s a personal internet identity crisis that has now been put to rest.
The new kindohm.com is a new informational source...

That's my girl
Eva (5 yrs) and I had the following discussion at breakfast today:
Me: Do you know what today is?
Eva: No
Me: It’s the first day of September
Eva: Does that mean that the new Halo is coming out?
// tears of joy //
That’s my girl.

HTTPS with Azure, Web APIs, Local Environments,...
My, that’s a long title….
On my current project we have developed a web-based API (e.g. sorta kinda RESTful) that allows remote applications to interface with our system. These remote applications currently include a Silverlight app and an iPhone app prototype.
Our web API is hosted at a secure HTTPS endpoint. This is crucial so that user credentials, which are required by our API,...

Digital Audio Synthesis on Windows Phone 7
Back in March 2010, I posted about my initial excitement and disappointment with the Windows Phone 7 developer tools. Back then, then WP7 emulator didn’t support the MediaElement’s SetSource method. SetSource provides the basis for being able to do digital audio synthesis with custom MediaStreamSource objects.
With the new WP7 beta tools, I’m happy to say that the SetSource...
Broken Silverlight apps fixed
Apparently the web hosting company (webhost4life.com) which hosts my ASP.NET / Silverlight applications decided to remove the XAP MIME type from my web site, thus breaking all of my personal Silverlight apps. If you follow my site and have been trying to use an app that appeared to be broken, please try again as I have resolved the issue.
In the meantime, don’t sign up for...

In a previous post I talked about capturing video from a web cam in Silverlight. In this article I’m going to talk about capturing audio. In addition, I’m going to cover how to keep the captured audio in memory and play it back using a custom MediaStreamSource object.
Just like with video, capturing audio begins with a CaptureSource...

Multi Video Capture in Silverlight
Try the demo application
Download source code
One fine detail before you read any further: you need to have two video capture devices (e.g. web cams) in order to really have any fun with this.
One of the best features about Silverlight 4 is that you can interact with video and audio capture devices. This enables you to take pictures from a web cam, record video, or record audio in your...
